So, I quite often get panic attacks when I'm in an uncomfortable situation. I had one last Friday on a rock climbing wall...not good.
I was wondering if anyone else got these too, because I'm finding it hard to find advice on the internet about panic attacks and wondered if any of you could help me out.

I've had them before...meds and counseling have helped me a ton...do you have anyone at school or a therapist/doctor you can talk to about them?
When you're in one try to remember that you'll only feel like that for a little while and draw attention to your breath as you breathe in and out. Try to ground yourself to something...I like to touch an object and focus on what the texture is like...try to describe everything you can to yourself about something around you...EVERYTHING.
I hope these don't last long :(

We have like nothing at school like that, only connexions, and they are mainly for career counselling :/
They vary in length, the one last Friday was about 5 minutes, but I've had one for half an hour before over a spider :(
Thanks for the advice! I will definitely try it out when I have my next one!

I have panic attacks all the time.
Due to pain, stress, or just randomness.
:(
I have been researching ways to help prevent them, so if I find useful info, I will forward it your way..
However, until then I have to wait til I see my psychologist/pain management doc!

Thankfully, My boyfriends mum is a nurse. She's told matt what to do for when it happens so he can help :)

I slept over my boyfriends last night, and I had 2 :( It was weird, because the first one, he wasn't with me, but he thought something was going to be wrong :/

Kind of like an intuition thing?

Yeah, but he couldn't see if I was OK because I was in the shower :/ I can sort of tell when I may get one, which helps a lot.
I went ice skating today, and I had one before I started (because I was pretty nervous) and this random guy came up to me and said "Don't worry, It's much easier if your near the edge"
I thought it was really kind of him :)

l cant speak from experience, however l had a friend (one of my neighbours) who had pretty bad panic attacks allot and he went through allot of services, two of the most noteable were hypnotism and acupuncture..
the one that worked was the acupuncture, in fact he hasnt had a panic attack in years and swears by it, might be worth looking into, tho lm only speaking his experience which seemed to work.

Isn't that like having needles put in you?

technically yes, but tbh l can only speak from my personal opinion here l would rather try something like acupuncture over allot of other possible remedies, my mate also didnt like needles but he was at the end of his tether and for him it worked.

Well, I'd probably have a panic attack before having it :L. I need to get something sorted, I'm having them about really strange things now :S

l could understand that, still its one of those things that is hard to relate to without actually having experienced it.. l'll ask my friend how he dealt with it if he doesnt mind explaining.. he might not have had EDS but from what he has told me his panic attacks were also accompanied by some pretty bad night terrors.

I don't get night terrors, thankfully. I seem to get stressed and worried about literally anything. I also tend to take everything really seriously which probably doesn't help that much either :/

still anything is worth trying l guess, but its all what one is willing to try.. thought l would at least pass along my friends experiences since it was on topic :)

hi :)
are you still having panic attacks?
i get them pretty badly and they go on for ages, the last one i had was my worst :( it was a month ago and was feeling it for weeks and i kept having smaller one after that and i still do i also get heart palpertations from it, ino it can be extremely scary but my psychologist gave me this technique which helps....
breath in for 4, breath out for 6
but it depends on which types you have, i don't no them but mine is were you can breath in but not out and can happen about anything,
once you find out which type then you might be able to recognise before you have one to calm your self.
its better to sort it out because it will get more triggers as it goes on in some cases. which sounds like yours
i really hope that i helped just a little bit :)

Mine sound exactly like yours tbh, I keep breathing in but don't breathe out, and get really light headed. I will try this next time :)

I am going to try that breathing technique, Devon! That is a REALLY god idea!

The breathing technique definitely helps! I do it before I feel like I am going to have one, and it controls the whole situation!
Thank you so much for sharing that Devon, has definitely made life that little bit easier :)

I try it and sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not. I am going to talk to Dr. Francomono and see if there is any kind of medication that I could take while in school to help with Panic Attacks because I surely do not want to embarrass myself there, ya know?

Luckily, I have never had one at school, but i'm guessing it would be quite embarrassing :S
